There are various scholarships at the University of Helsinki.

“The University of Helsinki charges fees of 13,000 to 18,000 EUR per academic year for its Master’s Program in English, depending on the program.Furthermore, The Bachelor’s Programme in Science has a fee of 13,000 EUR per academic year. Once set, the student’s fee remains the same throughout the program. Students who started before August 1, 2017, are exempt from fees.

Students are required to pay tuition fees if they are not citizens of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland and do not have permanent residence status in Finland. This applies if the degree program is taught in English, the study right was awarded in 2017 or later, and the program leads to a master’s or bachelor’s degree.

Students must prove they are not liable for fees. Instructions can be found on the required application enclosures for master’s programs.

Scholarships available for the 2023-24 application round include:

    50% Tuition Fee Waiver covering half of the tuition fee

    100% Tuition Fee Waiver covering the full tuition fee

As part of the national Finland Scholarship program, the University of Helsinki offers Finland Scholarships. Applicants can apply for this scholarship when applying for international master’s degree programs. Finland Scholarships include a 100% tuition fee waiver and a 5000 € relocation grant. The tuition fee waiver and the 5000 EUR grant will be renewed for the second year of studies if at least 55 credits are completed during the first study year. The University of Helsinki may award up to one Finland scholarship for a newly admitted student in each master’s degree program.

Tuition fees for the programs range from 13,000 to 18,000 euros.

The duration of the scholarship is two years. Recipients must study full-time (earning at least 55 ECTS per year) to fulfill the scholarship requirements. First Academic Year

Available Scholarships: No scholarships are available, but an early bird discount is an option.

Second Academic Year

Eligibility: Students who successfully complete the first year (minimum of 60 ECTS credits) are eligible for 50% scholarships.

Third Academic Year

Opportunity: A 50% Tuition Fee Waiver is available for students who successfully complete a minimum of 120 ECTS credits in the first and second academic years.

For double degree programs in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, and Software and Systems Engineering:

Double Degree Programs

Scholarships and Discounts: No scholarships or early bird discounts are offered during the application process. First-year scholarships are awarded during the first Autumn semester.

All tuition fees are initially collected, and a portion is refunded to awarded students based on scholarship percentages. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, and only students required to pay tuition fees are considered. Scholarship categories include:

Category 1: 2/3 of yearly tuition fee (max. of 4% of applicants)
Category 2: 1/3 of annual tuition fee (max. of 10% of applicants)
Category 3: 1000 € (max. 40% of applicants)

The total number of scholarships cannot exceed 11.1% of tuition fee income. Also,Students must have their own Finnish bank accounts to receive scholarships and provide this information by the end of November. Scholarships do not automatically continue for further academic years and are re-evaluated annually based on academic performance.
